What is it for? What does it represent?

Magnetometry, magnetic exploration, and aeromagnetic exploration is a method of geophysics that studies spatial changes in the Earth’s magnetic field due to the unequal magnetization of rocks and ores. It is used for solving mapping and search tasks.

Magnetometry is most widely used to locate potentially promising ore sites, as well as to create a geophysical basis for subsequent exploration and to clarify the geological structure of the territories. The scale of the survey is set by the terms of reference, depending on the geological task, the geological situation, geographical conditions and the estimated size of potential targets.

The AMS is made with an external suspension device (gundola), which houses a measuring sensor and navigation equipment. Quantum magnetometric sensors with a sensitivity of at least 0.001 nt and an operating range are used as measuring instruments. 15 000 – 130 000 nTl.

All used magnetometers (aero and ground-based magnetovariation stations) are equipped with built-in navigation receivers with high spatial resolution.

Observations are carried out using a system of ordinary and reference routes, in automatic mode by continuous recording while maintaining constant speed and altitude. The average measurement interval is 0.5 m, which makes it possible to map local magnetically active objects with maximum detail.

During the survey, variations in the geomagnetic field are recorded using a base magnetovariation station located directly within the site.

Obtaining objective information about the geological structure, which is based on the natural relationship of geomagnetic anomalies with geological objects, including structures of certain types and sizes, the material composition of rocks, concentrations of minerals, etc. The result is a map of predictive search interpretation and recommendations for further search operations.
